Rain Out and Make Up Procedures

A quick rundown of what to do on game day and after.

So it's looking like rain this weekend.  What do I do?

Prior to Sunday:

  1. If your the home team, know your umpire assignor.  If you don't know it, check here
  2. Establish a line of communication with the opposing manager BEFORE Sunday morning.  Make sure you are on the same page and have a plan for if the game has to be canceled Sunday morning.

Sunday Morning:

  1. Get to your field early!  Try to get the field playable and make a decision at least an hour before game time.
  2. If you have to cancel, you must call your umpire assignor at least 1 hour before the game starts or you may be charged with travel fees at least.
  3. Contact the opposing manager as early as possible.  Please be considerate of the fact that the opposing team might be traveling from a good distance.  You wouldn't want to drive an hour only to find your game canceled.
  4. In that conversation with the opposing manager, start to form a plan for your makeup game and start the line of communication.  Games need to get on the schedule and played.

Rescheduling, the league doesn't reschedule games for you.  YOU work out what is best for your teams:

  1. Try to reschedule into a DH if you have to see that team again.  If they rain out was a DH, maybe reschedule your single game to a DH and try to fit in another single.
  2. Holidays.  It's not popular, but Mother's Day is there for a rain date.  Memorial Day.  Fourth of July weekend.  Try to make it work.
  3. Saturdays.  If you can try to find a Saturday that might work.
  4. If you have a field with lights, try to get a Friday night game or week night game in.  Guys actually like playing under the lights and this might be easier than you think to get done.

And once your game is rescheduled, please email and we will change the schedule and arrange the umpires for you.  If you reschedule and change the site without telling us, your game will more than likely not have umpires.

Rain outs are no fun, but they aren't the end of the world.  Let's get our games scheduled and play some ball!
